Threads of Her

Utilizing my mother’s negatives, I merge my current work with hers made at a similar age to create an embodied source of our separate but connected artistic processes. Cyanotype serves as a tactile entrance into the archive through which I can physically explore internal connections of familial history. Occasionally including a few of her photographs unobscured highlights my investigation into her work while the double exposures introduce the ambiguity of an image’s author. The intentional concealment of a photo’s maker translates to our indistinguishable artistic tendencies. Lace documentation scattered throughout acts as layers of aesthetic identity and feminine interconnectedness. The final collection presents my inherited creative expression and paths of reconnection.
